uPnP doesn't always work. And some providers don'' t let you acces the DMZ.
Port forwarding was the ONLY way for me.
bungie is just making use of activision's ability to market and sell games. They got no hand in the game.
Bungie has an amazing understanding of their community and I dare to say their games are the most polished the last decade.
They know what the public want, i'm confident they'll pull it of.

I only miss one, Supreme commander (1). 2 was bad on so many levels... but one is just amazing.
And yes those games are amazing, the only one i didn't play yet is world in conflict.

The ipod touch sold so good because it was both very usefull and very good looking for a atractive price. Gaming on one is just an afterthought. You would be better off comparing it to an iphone, more games are being played on that.
